Sir, - Have any of your readers noticed how late the wasps are with us this year?
Both my neighbour and I have nests in our gardens which are still very active, and given that each adult wasp survives for only about two weeks, they must still be producing viable young.
In the spirit of the millennium celebrations, I am prepared to offer a decent bottle of claret to The Irish Times reader who can prove that he or she has the latest active nest in the island of Ireland for 1999.
Perhaps a photograph of The Irish Times front page held against the wasps emerging from the nest might suffice? - Yours, etc.,
