Madam, - It was heartening to read what series producer Seamus Cassidy had to say about future editions of RTÉ's The Panel (Arts, November 11th). He said that henceforth the programme would "be saying harder things about the news, with less effing and more politics".
The panellists, he continued, are "there to talk about what happened during the week, they're not there to deliver a dose of filth."
Mr Cassidy's renunciation of the wearisome dose of coarseness and profanities traditionally associated with the programme offers a refreshing prospect. The Panel may indeed now become a genuinely adult programme.
I suspect that a large segment of the licence-paying public will be pleased with this new programming policy in our public service broadcasting. - Yours, etc,
