Sir, - When I complained (October 1st) of Mr Spring's previous lack of visible support for Adi Roche, I did rather rely on the principles of visibility and openness so often propounded by Mr Spring. Whatever support he gave to Ms Roche was certainly less than visible.
With regard to the point on neutrality, I don't ask you to believe me that the government of which Mr Spring was Tanaiste led us closer to Nato. Rather look to the current statements of his present supporters, Ms McKenna MEP and Mr Gormley TD. I may be wrong, but surely they are not. Perhaps the convenience coalition supporting Ms Roche ignores all internal and obvious differences. Would Mr Spring have us forgo all objective criticism so as to protect his rather brittle personality? - Yours, etc.,
Maire O Donnabhain,
Ovens, Co Cork.
