Sir, – I note some letters supporting the imposition of water charges in The Irish Times recently. I got a bill from Irish Water last Thursday. I have neither mains water or sewage, nor has any other house in the locality. Our well contains large amounts of iron and smaller amounts of sulphur and manganese. There is a treatment system installed to remove these elements (fairly successfully). Despite this, the roof tank has to be drained and flushed twice yearly. An ultra-violet treatment had to be added, because of the presence of E-coli, which caused recurrent infections. We have been told the E-coli may be coming from intensive pig farms polluting the ground water. I'd like to know if your readers think I should pay this bill? – Yours, etc,
