Madam, - Reading your columnist Ronan McGreevy and your Editorial on dangerous weeds (August 21st) I feel honour bound to claim a potential record for my adopted city and county of Cork.
This past Sunday travelling the main road from Cork to Midleton I observed that between the Glanmire and Midleton roundabouts I was able to have the golden ragwort in my line of sight at all times. Sometimes it was in profusion, sometimes a lone plant, sometimes on the median divide and sometimes on the verge.
Returning that evening I confirmed the observation for the city-bound carriageway and the distance as almost precisely 10 miles.
Does this evidence-based double-sided trial constitute proof that, as in all other matters, Cork is tops? - Yours, etc,
NEIL J BRENNAN, Shanakiel, Cork.
