Madam, - Alan Cassells (December 2nd) is quite correct in pointing out that in a recent article I mixed up Edward J Conway FRS, biochemist, with Arthur W Conway FRS, mathematical physicist. Nonetheless, I'm none too sure how this error merits the heading "The Wrong De Selby". Agreed it was "The Wrong Fellow of The Royal Society", but there is no doubt that my article identified the right De Selby.
Arthur did live in "The Colza Hotel", and his daughter Teresa Mary was in actuality known as "May". And it was she who married the man I identified as Flann O'Brien's character. Be all that as it may. No more excuses. The essential problem here is that I've been writing for too many years and part of my brain has exchanged molecules with my chair. - Yours, etc,
CONAN KENNEDY,
Killala,
Co Mayo.
