Madam, – On Christmas Eve you provided tough editorial commentary on the valiant efforts of your journalists to analyse the AIB High Court case. As you rightly point out, their exclusion and the new laws relating to coverage of bank cases can be interpreted as an attempt to silence the media.
What a pity then that on Page 8 of your newspaper on the same day you failed to include the 1992 loan write-off for former taoiseach Dr Garret FitzGerald in your history of AIB. Especially since he was taoiseach when the state picked up the costs of the failed ICI that was abandoned by AIB. By excluding this could one interpret it as silence for an honorary member of the media, since Dr FitzGerald is a correspondent for your newspaper. – Yours, etc,
