Sir, – Credit to our national broadcaster and the producers of The Story of Yes shown on RTÉ 2 on Monday evening. It brought back so many emotional memories of the countless brave people who put themselves forward last year in the name of equality and love.
The poignant reminder in the documentary of what happened to Declan Flynn in Fairview Park in 1982, to the joyous outcome in Dublin Castle on May 23rd last, show how far as a society we have evolved. It’s also important to recognise those on the No side who offered genuine congratulations as they conceded defeat during the historic counting of our votes, unlike some who continue via social media to dispute the outcome.
We must now all live together in peace and harmony, assured that our democratic freedoms are more intact than ever and in a beautiful country that stands proud among the nation of the Earth. Next stop, Australia. – Yours, etc,
