Sir, - I write in support of Frank McDonald's timely articles on tourism. He has articulated much of what I have felt and voiced privately for several years. I hope that his intervention will be the catalyst for healthy debate on the future of Irish tourism. I have my own wish list which includes:
1. The establishment of "sustainable tourism" courses at all levels of our education system.
2. An immediate ban on golfcourse developments.
3. The provision of funding for a study into the possibility of reviving dead railway lines. Can you imagine how beneficial to locals and tourists alike a rail link from Galway to Clifden would be?
4. A declaration of redundancy for the word "product" in the context of tourism. To equate hospitality and the provision of tourism services with cornflakes or detergent is demeaning to the providers, the land and the visitor. - Yours, etc., Gerry Galvin,
