Madam, - I returned recently from a short holiday to find my hallway cluttered with leaflets promoting supermarkets, hardware shops, pizzerias and betting shops. The leafleting of thousands of houses by mail-shot is an expensive and inefficient method of littering. Householders pay twice for this advertising. We pay the price of the goods and services that must reflect the cost of producing the leaflets and we also pay to dispose of them.
This form of advertising gives householders no choice and replicated countrywide produces hundreds of tonnes of print waste annually. In the interest of better waste management, isn't it about time we legislated to restrict junk mail? - Yours, etc,
