Sir, - During the live television transmission of the St Patrick's Day parade in Dublin, RTE occasionally cut from shots of the Dublin parade to shots of similar celebrations in other cities throughout the world, but you could always tell when the cameras were back focusing on Dublin by the fringe of litter around the feet of the spectators.
Is it too much to hope that, with the promised saturation TV coverage of the Tour de France, it has occurred to the organisers to provide (a) thousands of temporary litter boxes on the route, and (b) personnel to clear the rubbish as the race progresses? - Yours, etc., Niall H. Bracken,
Blackrock, Co Dublin.
