Tour De France

Sir, - Douglas McCowen's letter (July 7th) provided the straw to break this cyclist's back. It's absolutely incredible to read letters and articles, some from those who should know better, bemoaning the disruption which may ensue by the arrival of the Tour de France in Ireland. The Tour is an amazing carnival of colour and fun which can be enjoyed by everyone. It also provides a unique opportunity for Ireland to promote itself worldwide. Having to consider alternative arrangements is a small price to pay for this once in a lifetime visit.

The Tour will not cause any more chaos than our annual half inch of snow, the first sight of which, I suspect, causes these grumblers to clear the supermarket shelves, stock up on fuel and write to Met Eireann to complain about the weather. - Yours, etc., Martin Burke,
