Madam, - The Dublin Cycling Campaign has been pressing Irish Rail and the Railway Procurement Authority to ensure that rail-based public transport will have rolling stock that is capable of taking bikes on board without jeopardising the safety or comfort of passengers.
This is not a costly engineering challenge for either the specifiers or makers of the carriages. The "green" transport agenda requires that inter-modality be the norm in commuting to work or school or when on holidays. It is time for the Minister for Transport to direct that this solution become the norm. - Yours, etc,
MIKE McKILLEN, Dublin Cycling Campaign, Seaview Terrace, Dublin 4.
