Madam, – My sister, Jane, was the fortunate recipient of a double transplant in 1994 and an additional single transplant in 2002.
For the past eight weeks I and my family have watched Jane, along with David Hickey and his team courageously, tirelessly and relentlessly battle to save her precious young life. Regretfully her fight ended last Friday.
To Mr Hickey, Director of Transplantation, we will be eternally grateful. To Jane’s previous donors and their families we, like Jane, will be eternally grateful.
To Mary Harney, Minister for Health, we beseech you to go to the transplant unit in Beaumont Hospital, to listen carefully to Mr Hickey and his team and to provide the badly needed resources in order to give others the precious gift of life.
