Madam, - I recently made a visit to the Transport Museum in the Howth Castle Demesne. I could not believe my eyes. The main buildings that house the exhibit are two large sheds into which the various vehicles are jammed.
I am not exaggerating when I say that they are jammed in. To get at some of the vehicles it was necessary to turn sideways to walk between them. A number of the exhibits were covered in dust and a lot of them needed restoration work done on them.
There was only one member of staff on duty when I was there.
There are, apparently, a lot more exhibits that are stored off site because of lack of space. The condition of this museum is an absolute disgrace.
The Government have spent a lot of money on the main museums and have done a very good job on them, something you can be proud of. Why are funds not made available for the transport museum? - Yours, etc.,
