Sir, - On Friday October 15th I travelled on the 6.42 p.m. train from Wexford to Dublin. The carriages on the train were lit on one side only so that we travelled in semi-darkness. There were no lights in the toilets and no water. The train was filthy and the stench appalling. Not one of the intermediary stations between Wexford and Bray had its name illuminated, so where we were became a guessing game.
This journey was bad enough for natives who might understand the idiosyncracies of Iarnocid Eireann, but I shudder to think what visitors to this island might think of these conditions.
Is it any wonder that the inhabitants prefer to travel in their cars? - Yours, etc.,
H.J. Beckett, Green Road, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
