Sir, - The coy bafflement of your columnist, John Waters (Opinion, January 27th) when he considers "our current national obsession with money" and the readiness of a "deeply unhappy" populace to support, as he puts it, "the culture of tribunals", is touching. It reminds me of the oft-reported coy bafflement of the aristocracy of old when the "lower orders" questioned their comings and goings, their lifestyles or their plans. - Yours, etc.,
