Sir, - We have a Green Party rabbiting on about recycling and the environment. We have your excellent Frank McDonald also expounding conservation and recycling, and I don't know how many more.
Though only a small family, we do not bin or burn our waste paper. We have an accumulation of newsprint and boxes of other paper extending over 18 months. For the last 28 years we have found various firms who were glad to collect our wastepaper. Now we have failed. Most of the firms in the Golden Pages seem to be out of business.
One firm advertising in the Golden Pages says: "No premises too large or too small". We rang up. A snooty person eventually agreed that they might take it - for £56! We have had a similar experience with bottles - as has a pub nearby.
When John Gormley was Lord Mayor I wrote to him twice - with not even an acknowledgment. So much for the Greens.
Will some of these crusaders please get off their high horses and help the hoi polloi to conserve and recycle? - Yours, etc.,
Carrickmines Station, Dublin 18.
