Sir, - As a Dubliner born and bred I was shocked and horrified that Dublin Corporation was proposing to "twin" Dublin with Beijing. Already several excellent letters have appeared in your Letters columns (April 3rd and 4th) decrying this obscene proposal.
I echo their approbation and will add that some years ago, John Gormley as Lord Mayor of Dublin proposed that Dublin Corporation should grant the freedom of the city to the Dalai Lama. This proposal was voted down by the Fianna Fail members of the corporation. What an insult to the exiled leader of the Tibetan people. To add injury to insult, these same councillors now want to effectively give the freedom of the city to the oppressors of his people? - Yours, etc.,
