Sir, - The Irish Georgian Society has for many years been trying unsuccessfully to establish who owns Tyrone House, and the society welcomes the publicity (Out of the West, August 9th) concerning its condition. It would be splendid if the tangled red tape which surrounds the question of ownership could be cut loose and Tyrone House taken into State care - and conserved as a majestic shell. Ruins of these great houses, such as Tyrone House, Dromore Castle, Co Limerick and Castleboro, Co Wexford deserve stabilisation and preservation, as much as our medieval ruins of abbeys and castles. - Yours, etc.,
