Sir, - UNICEF's report on the vast extent of violence against women makes disturbing reading. We are living in an age in which man's inhumanity to man (and women) is at a frighteningly colossal level.
However, UNICEF is not blameless for the fundamental tolerance of violence. Last year the Holy See in Rome withdrew all financial contributions to UNICEF because of its policy of promoting widespread violence against children in the womb. Indeed, Cardinal Daly was a patron of UNICEF but resigned over this serious matter. UNICEF has inextricable links with IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation), which has made a multi-million pound business out of women's vulnerability through encouraging abortion.
You quote Ms Maura Quinn, director of UNICEF Ireland, as saying: "In today's world to be born female is to be born high-risk." She should also note that statistically by far the most dangerous place for a child to be is, tragically, in its mother's womb - a place which should be a sanctuary, not a death cell!
There will never be real peace in this world until there is peace in the hearts of men and women. - Yours, etc., (Dr) Gerry Molloy, Rathgar, Dublin 6.
