Sir, - Dr Eames spoke at the Church of Ireland diocesan synod of a feeling among unionists that they had "given, given and given again" (The Irish Times, October 21st).

Presumably he was referring to the "concessions" that unionists had been forced to make to nationalist demands since 1968.

The unionists have not made any such "concessions", nor are they in a position to do so. The correct expression is restitution by instalments.

The final instalment will be the return to the entire Irish nation (Ironically this includes the unionists themselves) of its right to full self-sovereignty. - Yours, etc., Paul McNamee,
