Madam, - Apparently there has been an epidemic of illicit drugs on the streets of our villages, towns and cities following the US invasion of Afghanistan and the overthrow of the Taliban who had previously banned the growing of the poppy.
We are now told that the current going price of the most popular brands is at an all-time low due to the saturation of the market.
Gardaí, no doubt, are doing their best and their recent captures of large quantities of hard and soft drugs are to be commended. However, when I read of Garda seizures valued at €20 million here and €10 million there, I wonder if these figures represent the reality on the street or are they just a tad inflationary? - Yours, etc.,
