Madam, - The suggestion by Steven C. ffeary-Smyrl (April 27th) to reunite Queen Victoria with Albert, her prince consort, at Leinster Lawn is neither fanciful nor absurd.
It is, I suggest, but another attempt actively to promote the restoration of British imperial monuments and memorials such as that of Sergeant Coughlan's grave in Mayo, Queen Victoria in Dun Laoghaire, and the memorial to British Royal Navy submariners in Carrigaline Co Cork, while simultaneously demanding that the statue of the Irish Republican Sean Russell be removed.
It is imperative that nationalist Ireland oppose any attempt to remove Russell's monument from Fairview Park and challenge those in the Irish political and journalistic élite who seem hell bent on restoring the British dimension to the 26 counties. - Yours, etc,
TOM COOPER, Delaford Lawn, Dublin 16.
