Sir, - May I correct one small omission in Sean Redmond's letter (March 13th), in which he says "one person one vote" did not exist. This did exist in elections to Stormont and to Westminster, which were the government of Northern Ireland. The only area in which it did not exist in was council elections where only rate-payers had the vote, the logic being that those who paid the rates made the decisions on how they were spent.
This affected Catholic and Protestant working classes equally. For a long time now, the lack of "one person one vote" in Northern Ireland before 1960 has been broadcast around the world as if was a rule disenfranchising Catholics only. - Yours, etc,
