Madam, - The Congolese community in Ireland is shocked and concerned by the idea of Ireland providing aid to Uganda (or Rwanda). We feel that the Irish Government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs, is indirectly financing the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a war that has cost the lives of more than 3 million people.
The Congo Solidarity Group, which represents the second largest African community in Ireland, therefore urges the Irish Government to immediately withdraw its aid to the Ugandan government and instead to apply pressure for the Ugandan army to pull out of the Democratic Republic of Congo in accordance with the relevant UN recommendations. - Yours, etc.,
KENSIKA MONSHENGWO, Congo Solidarity Group, c/o Comhlamh, Upper Camden Street, Dublin 2.
