Sir, - It would be a great pity if RTE were to ignore the wave of public protest at the banishing of the Met Eireann forecasters from the airwaves.
The general perception of the change is that knowledge and expertise are being cast aside in favour of superficiality and novelty. I believe the organisation should accept that an error of judgment has been made in this instance and take the necessary steps to remedy the situation.
RTE can, of course, dig in and wait for the uproar to die down - as indeed it will - but the continuing impotent rage felt by viewers will not be helpful to relations between the general public and the national broadcasting service. - Yours, etc.,
Joyce Andrews, Bective, Co Meath.
