Sir, - Imagine how delighted I was, as a battery wheelchair user, to find access built across busy Rathmines Road. Two skid-proof "islands" and wheelchair-height traffic-light buttons. Well, I tried this lovely new access across the road and I couldn't use it at all. Each island and both footpaths had quite high steps to get on. My chair would not take such high steps up - it flatly refused and I was marooned.
Why, if they build lovely new traffic islands, with dips for wheelchairs, can't the dips be usable by being flush with the road? - Yours, etc.,
Sandra A. Webb,
Rathmines, Dublin 6.
