Sir, - As I write, it is 8.30 a.m. and I am looking up my road at the wheelie refuse bins awaiting collection. All the bins are neatly placed at the edge of the footpath, with wheels and handles facing the road, as directed by Dublin Corporation.
In about one hour the bins will be collected and emptied, then pushed back towards the footpath again. Most of the bins do not reach the edge; others fall over and are left there. The scene will resemble an obstacle course.
Why are we, the "customers", reprimanded with a yellow sticker if our bins are not correctly placed outside our homes, while the refuse collectors are allowed to leave the bins anywhere? Those who work during the day cannot remove their bins until evening. This means the bins, if out from the footpath or fallen over, cause problems for traffic all day.
At least with the black refuse sacks, the street looked cleaner (most of the time!) after the refuse collection. - Yours, etc.,
