Sir, - Before inviting the readers of The Irish Times to enter a competition for a £1,800 20-volume set of the Oxford English Dictionary, Mr Fred Hanna, the noted Dublin bookseller, whose establishment in Nassau Street I have patronised many times to my great benefit, should have consulted it when devising the tiebreaker, which begins: "I would like to win a gift . . ." You, sir, must agree this is a contradiction in terms, and according to my modest single volume, impossible. - Yours, etc.,
From Paddy McGarvey
Duke's Grove, Armagh.
