Sir, - I sincerely hope that the letter under this heading (March 11th) was intended to be sarcastic and an exercise in black satire. Maybe it was intended for publication on April 1st?
It reads tongue in cheek all right. Example: "Since the fairer sex have (sic) now succeeded in assailing this last bastion of masculinity. . ." But of course it has not, as presumably no male took part in the contest.
If, by mischance, it was intended to be serious, let me be among the first of the "chauvinistic contingent" to express chauvinistic horror at the thought of two women trying to pound each other into unconsciousness. All right, men have done just this for a long time, so I suppose women will do likewise; but please let me hope the letter was satire!
Another not very edifying correspondence, sir. - Yours, etc.,
Malahide,
Co Dublin.
