Madam, – I believe that Canon Ginnie Kennerley and Dr Bridget Mary Meehan (July 28th) are missing the point when they campaign for having women priests. According to St Peter (1 Peter 2:9-10) all Christians are priests already by virtue of God’s calling of them. So there are lots of women priests already who are happily worshipping God and spreading the knowledge of his kingdom.

Why focus on ordination when what really matters is having the faith and the competence to minister? Why get caught up in pseudo-struggles for equality when you are a priest already and all you have to do is love God and do what he says to do. Why not avoid the phoney equality wars which have more to do with securing positions of pomp, pride, prestige and power than any furtherance of God’s kingdom. Why not simply enjoy God and get on with living as a priest. – Yours, etc,
