Sir, - Far from wasting Irish Times money in employing him, Kevin Myers provides the kernel - almost always stimulating - in a paper I would love to buy every day if it wasn't so expensive!
On Friday we had Fintan O'Toole on the general malaise of corruption afflicting many of the upper - in material possessions - echelons of Irish society and Kevin Myers with the specific denunciation of the lethargy of the educated affluent population, who do not exert themselves to question the attitude to driving and the derisory level of punishment incurred by those convicted of dangerous driving.
I think our collective inertia towards such matters is in inverse proportion to the time and attention given to material gain. In Milton's words "getting and spending we lay waste our powers".
