Sir, - Martin Walker's article on the Leicester City manager, Martin O'Neill (Sport, September 13th), contains three howlers about the 1982 World Cup which can't be let go. Spain were not eliminated from the competition after losing to Northern Ireland, but rather went on to a second round group with Germany and England. Northern Ireland did not defeat Austria, but rather drew 22. Their match against France was not in fact a quarter-final, but their second game in the second-round group.
