Sir, - Being a teenager., I can comment on the attitude of Irish youth to Irish politics. Most of the time, the only position we hold is one of amusement at how wrong and unfair the system is. Most teenagers I know see politicians as corrupt beings who get huge wads of cash for doing nothing. And I ask you, is it any wonder?
How on earth are we supposed to eradicate this image when Liam Lawlor who, after serving a week in prison for contempt of court because of his failure to co-operate with a tribunal investigating corruption, is sitting alongside our trusty companions in Dail Eireann?
We saw across the water what happened when it emerged that Peter Mandelson had enquired about a passport. He was out of the cabinet within days. So why, after so many months, is Liam Lawlor representing the people of this country? We deserve better!
It's no wonder young people are bewildered with politics. - Yours, etc.,
Stephen O'Shea, Hallahoise, Castledermot, Co Kildare.
