Sir, - Amid much fanfare, Dr Michael Woods, the Minister for Education, recently inaugurated a project aimed at reducing and preventing stress among teachers, (The Irish Times, May 11th).
At the same time, the Department of Education informed St Patrick's National school here in Skerries that it is to lose a teacher next September. My son, who is currently in a class of 26 pupils, will next year be in a class of at least 35. I understand the Department's own recommended maximum class size is 30 pupils.
It's nice to see the Department of Education doing its bit to support Dr Woods's project. - Yours, etc.,
Martin Loughnan, The Maltings, Skerries, Co Dublin.
