Sir, - Michael Byrne of "Ennis Information Age Town" is misleading Irish kids! Santa Claus does not live in the North Pole (The Irish Times, December 14th). Since reindeer can't graze in the North Pole, Santa lives just a bit further south in Finnish Lapland on Korvatunturi (meaning "Ear Fell"), where thousands of reindeer can roam and graze freely.
The fell, which is situated on Finland's eastern frontier, somewhat resembles a hare's ears - which are in fact Santa Claus's ears, with which he listens to hear if the world's children are being naughty or nice.
After Mrs Claus and all the elves have helped pack Santa's sleigh and Santa has completed his exhaustive Christmas Night trip around the world, he always returns to Korvatunturi in Finnish Lapland for a well-earned rest. - Yours, etc., Niall O'Donoghue,
Jyvaskyla, Finland.
