Sir, - The events of last Tuesday reminded me in some ways of the Omagh bombing.
With Omagh, however, there was a list of names and townlands. It was identifiable - something you could put a face on or a story to. But this? How can you sum up, remember, grieve the deaths of thousands of people? Each of these individuals carried a universe inside them - a catalogue of dreams, memories, experiences, loves and losses.
On a sunny Sunday in Croke Parke after the Omagh bombings, children listed those who had died. That ceremony lasted a minute. How long might would it take to name 5,000 or more? - Yours, etc.,
Anne McLoughlin, Moneymore, Trim, Co Meath.
