Earlier this month it was revealed that US state secrets, including hundreds of pages of sensitive documents and maps relating to the war in Ukraine, had been leaked and available to view on a server called Discord - a chatroom used by gamers - for months.

Embarrassingly for the US, the leak was the work not of Russian or Chinese intelligence but of 21-year-old air force reservist Jack Teixeira.

On today’s episode of In the News, Scott Lucas, professor of American Studies at the Clinton Institute, UCD explains how such a leak was able to happen and how significant it is for Ukraine’s war effort, American prestige and Irish security.
