The mother of Green Party leader Eamon Ryan has died suddenly following an accident while on a holiday.
It is understood the incident occurred while Mary Ryan was on Inisbofin Island, off the coast of Co Galway.
Ms Ryan, from Sandycove, south Dublin, was taken to University Hospital Galway by air ambulance, but died on Wednesday.
A Green Party spokesman said “Mary Ryan, mother of John, Eamon, Robert and Marion died suddenly in the early hours [of Wednesday] at University Hospital Galway.”

Her funeral Mass is to take place in St Joseph’s Church, Glasthule, south Dublin, on Saturday.
