John Arrigan, captain of The Heath GC, has been telling me about his drive-in, which had a golden ring to it: both captains of 1951 were present. Indeed 84-year-old John Bolger played in the day's competition while Breda Kavanagh was a delighted onlooker. And the competition included another 84-year-old with jubilee links. Rev Gregory Brophy was captain of Naas GC in 1951. "And where was I in 1951?" asked Arrigan rhetorically. "Doing my Leaving Certificate." Which we may conclude, he did rather well.
