When I won the Junior Singles in Delgany, when I was 16.

First time to break 90?

Probably that same summer I won the Junior Singles.

Last bit of equipment you bought?

To be honest, I haven't had to buy any equipment for the past 10 years . . . the only thing I buy in a golf shop is drinks for the bag!

Last time you took a cart and why?

Playing in Florida, because everyone else takes a cart and it is so hot.

Last time you muttered an obscenity on the course and why?

I'm no angel . . . all the time. I pretty much swear at least once every time that I play (and, under my breath, when I'm caddying too).

Which of the majors would you like to attend and why?

British Open, great atmosphere. The crowds are unbelievable.

Ideal fourball. Who and where?

Playing with my dad against my two brothers, Mark and Alan, in Delgany Golf Club.

One last round on earth, where would it be?

The Old Course at St Andrews, just because of its place in the history of the game.

Dress sense: Davis Love or Ian Poulter?

Definitely Davis Love.

Is a Titleist Pro V1 worth the expense?

I think so, especially for a single handicap golfer . . . maybe not so much for higher handicaps.

Best golf club food - where?

Pebble Beach . . . the spit-roast chicken is out of this world.

140 yards out from the green. Flat calm. What's in your hands?

A hard wedge.

Favourite club in times of trouble?

These days, a rescue club.

Parkland or links?

Links - there is so much shot-making, chips and runs and different type of golf.

Must see golfing holiday destination?

You can't beat the West of Ireland, there's an abundance of fabulous courses that don't cost an arm and a leg to play.

Hidden gem?

Castlerea in Co Roscommon, a lovely, little nine-hole course that has mature trees and the River Suck in play on a number of holes.

One Mulligan in life?

I'd loved to have followed through on my dream to be a jockey. I went so far as applying to be a racing apprentice at RACE in Newbridge, but changed my mind.
