MUNSTER SHC SEMI-FINALS: Adare 1-11 Toomevara 0-10: ADARE made history yesterday when they held out to earn a spot in the Munster final for the first time after three previous failures.
They won despite scoring only three points in the second half after they got off to whirlwind start which saw them lead 1-4 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter.
The only goal came after 11 minutes when Liam Costelloe finished after gathering a long ball from Michael Noonan. By half-time Adare led 1-8 to 0-3, but that eight-point advantage was whittled away as Toomevara scored six points without reply from Ken Dunne (two frees), Willie Ryan (two), Joey McLoughney and Francis Devanney to leave only two points separating the teams with seven minutes remaining.
It took Adare 23 minutes into the second half before Donnacha Sheehan added their first score of that half. McLoughney replied for Toome, but late points from Diarmuid Sexton and Conor Fitzgerald sealed Adare's triumph.
Following one second-half flare-up referee Diarmuid Kirwan booked four players, two from each side and in stoppage time he sent off Toomevara's Eoin Brislane for a foul on Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald was Adare's ace marksman with six points, four frees, one '65' and one from play.
Veteran Mark Foley was superb at wing back, and latterly centre back, for the winners who were never headed once Fitzgerald put them ahead with a marvellous point in the eighth minute.
