LEINSTER WOMEN'S SC - Dublin 1-15 Laois 0-15:DUBLIN DETHRONED Laois at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, yesterday to capture the women's Leinster senior championship crown for the first time since 2005.
Dublin ran out 1-15 to 0-15 winners to book a place in the All-Ireland quarter-finals with Laois sent to the qualifiers.
Sinéad Aherne's goal after six minutes proved crucial as Dublin led by 1-7 to 0-8 at half-time and held off Laois in the second half to reclaim the title.
Aherne's goal was a scrappy effort as she fisted the ball to the net, but Dublin cared little as this crucial effort provided the platform for an eventual three-point win.
Meanwhile, reigning All-Ireland champions Cork powered to a comprehensive 1-23 to 2-7 victory over Kerry in the Munster senior final at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday.
Cork began well and, despite Kerry's Maireád Finnegan and Patrice Dennehy scoring goals, led 0-14 to 2-4 at half-time.
Cork regained control on the resumption and added further gloss to the scoreline when Valerie Mulcahy converted a late penalty.
