The Irish Amateur Open will have a strong international turnout at Royal Dublin on Friday, Saturday and Sunday week. The overseas entries include seven from Finland, four from France, three from both Germany and England and one each from Portugal, the USA and the Isle of Man. Due to the popularity of the championship last year at Royal Dublin, when it was played over two days, this year's event has been extended to three days with an entry of 120. Following the 18 holes on Friday and Saturday, the top 40 players and ties will contest the final 36 holes on the Sunday. The holder, Michael Hoey, will not be defending his title. The Shandon Park International is unable to take time off from his studies at Clemson University in America.
