Antrim ... 2-7 Westmeath ... 0-15Westmeath remained unbeaten in the Allianz NFL Division 2A despite the absence of suspended captain, Rory O'Connell, at Casement Park yesterday.
In the absence of O'Connell, Martin Flanagan moved to midfield and assumed the captaincy. He also scored two points and was named man of the match.
Antrim hit two superb goals, one in each half, but they chalked up too many wides and Westmeath stormed back each time.
Kevin Brady goaled in the 13th minute, and Conal Kelly and JP O'Hagan added points, but Antrim didn't score again until the 34th minute, while Westmeath hit five points and reached half-time all square, 1-4 to 0-7.
When Peter McCann bagged the second goal in the 43rd minute Antrim led 2-5 to 0-8. But Westmeath again took a grip and kept tagging on the points for victory.
