All-Ireland club champions Athenry are through to another Galway Senior Hurling championship final after a big win over Portumna at Ballinasloe yesterday.

Portumna opened impressively and had a Damien Hayes point inside 10 seconds followed by three costly wides. Corner forward Donal Moran had his first goal in the sixth minute when he finished off a great move involving Pat Higgins, Eugene Cloonan and Joe Rabbitte. At half-time the winners led by 1-9 to 0-8 and in a see-saw second half it took Moran's second goal eight minutes after the resumption to steady Athenry.

Clarinbridge 1-19, Gort 0-14

Clarenbridge ran riot over neighbours Gort in the second half of the second semi-final at Ballinasloe.

They scored 11 times in the second period and held the opposition scoreless for 16 minutes.

Powered by the Kerins brothers, Mark and Alan, The Bridge were hungrier and more industrious throughout. Alan Kerins had a goal in the 10th minute, missed a sitter midway through the second half and had a third attempt disallowed two minutes before full time.

The winners led by the narrowest of margins, 1-8 to 0-10, after full forward Ollie Fahy had kept Gort's hopes alive with a wonderful first half display.
