A goal in the 51st minute from Joe Fallon copper-fastened Athlone's victory over Kilkenny champions Railyard at St John's Park yesterday.
Early points from Shane Geraghty, Aidan Collins and Joe Fallon suggested the Westmeath side meant business, but they were hauled back to level terms by the 22nd minute and at half-time they led by only 0-7 to 0-5.
The improved after the break, but never looked entirely happy until Fallon netted.
