Motor Sport:Details of this year's Phoenix Park Motor races were announced in Dublin yesterday.
Dates for this unique two-day event are August 11th and 12th, for which traditionally admission is free.
The meeting is backed by the Phoenix Park Drivers and organised by the Leinster Motor Club, headed by Ann Stevens, clerk of the course.
A special feature will be Dublin's largest ever afternoon tea party in aid of Irish Autism Action. Racing will be over the Oldtown Circuit, incorporating part of the main road, Furry Glen hairpin and Mountjoy corner.
Race sponsors and partners listed to date are: Ebay, Dublin's FM104, FDS Worldwide Express, Gordon Kellett Motors, HB Ice Cream, Motorsport Ireland, Motor Racing Marshals Club of Ireland, Mondello Park, CAT-The Rental Store, The Sign Factory, Sophos, Squeez, Team PR Reilly and Topcon.
The racing classes competing are: Formula Libre/Formula 5, Formula Sheane/Global GT, Formula Vee, Dunlop Supercars, Fiat Abarth/Uno/Punto, Porsches, Strykers, Historics and Crossle sports cars - over 400 cars and drivers.
In addition there will be various on-track demonstrations and paddock exhibits, plus attractions for all the family.
Racing in the park dates back to 1903, and the Irish Grand Prix was held there in 1929-1931. The Phoenix Park races continue to be a unique sporting attraction in the capital and, according to the organisers, the meeting attracts crowds of up to 86,000.
