Australian swimmer Richard Upton has received a three-month Olympic ban and been ordered to repay funding of Aus$1,200 (£600) for testing positive to the steroid masking agent Probenecid.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) imposed the ban yesterday after ruling Upton had breached the Australian Olympic Committee's (AOC) anti-doping policy.
The ban on Olympic competition and funding from the AOC's medal incentive scheme was backdated until February 17th, the day he returned a positive test.
Five weeks ago Upton, a world championship relay silver medallist, was fined Aus$2,000 (£1,000) and severely reprimanded by the board of Australian Swimming (ASI).
But he escaped suspension after ASI accepted that he was given the drug by a doctor to help recover from an ear and throat infection.
